Garlic Powder

General Description: Garlic powder is a spice, or powder, made from pounding garlic. Garlic a member of the same group of plants as the Onion.

Uses: Garlic Powder can be used in marinades, salad dressings, stews, roasts, casseroles, soups, chowders, game, fish, shellfish, gravies, stuffing, pastas, rice dishes, mixed with herbs and rubbed on poultry, pork, or beef before cooking.

History: Garlic was introduced to the Western Hemisphere by some of the first European explorers, and its use spread rapidly. In the United States it was first cultivated in New Orleans by French settlers. Missionaries brought it to California, where it is grown today.

Origin: It is widely cultivated in the Latin countries bordering on the Mediterranean. Warmer regions often produce more flavorful garlic.
