General Description: Allspice is dried unripe berry of the Pimenta Dioica Plant. The English name it Allspice because its flavor suggests a blend of cloves, pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Uses: Allspice is used in seasonings and it is one of the most important ingredients of Caribbean cuisine. Allspice is commonly used in marinades, pickling, curry powder, mole sauces and it is particularly popular spice in European cooking.

History: Christopher Columbus discovered Allspice when he was searching for pepper in the Caribbean. He brought it back to Spain, where it got the name of “Pimienta”. Allspice is the only spice that is grown exclusively in the Western Hemisphere

Origin: Most Allspice is produced in Jamaica, but some other sources for allspice are Guatemala, Honduras as well as Mexico.
