General Description: Celery seed is the dried fruit of the Apium graveolens which is closely related to vegetable celery. They are very small light-brown seeds that give the flavor and aroma of celery.

Uses: Celery seed can be used in dishes to give the taste of celery without using the celery stalk itself. It is often used in soups, salad dressings, tomato dishes and pickling.

History: Celery seed is a derivative of a domesticated wild plant know as “smallage”. It was used by ancient Greeks and Romans for medicinal purposes. It was also believed to bring bad luck and was associated with funerals.

Origin: Celery seed is mainly produced India and China.

Shelf Life: 3-4 years
